About West Lodge
Tucked away on the glorious Lyme Park estate, West Lodge is a picture-book pretty Edwardian cottage set in leafy woodland. This former gate lodge on the western boundary of Lyme’s grand estate and deer park is the perfect spot for getting away from it all. With out-of-hours access to the grounds, take in the jaw dropping views towards urban Manchester and beyond, through Drinkwater Meadow, or the rugged moors of the Peak District, and you’ll definitely feel you’re in a different world.
Step through the stone porch into the living room with its stone flagstone floors, jewel toned sofa and cosy woodburner and you’ll feel instantly at home. Also downstairs, there’s a fitted kitchen, small pantry and a dining room looking into the courtyard. Head upstairs to discover the bathroom (with shower over the bath) and two bedrooms with pretty curtains, vintage oak furniture and super comfy super king-size beds - making West Lodge great for couples or families. You’ll love waking up to views of the gorgeous countryside from the dual-aspect windows too. Outside, there are gardens to the rear and side; a woodland rockery, and a lawned area with patio furniture that’s wonderful for alfresco lunches.
With out-of-hours access to the 1400-acre estate grounds when you stay, you’re free to wander, cycle, or run the trails and explore places like the deer park, the pool made famous by Mr Darcy (in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice,) or the huge garden away from the crowds. If the wilds of Lyme aren’t quite wild enough, then head into the Peak District for some seriously stunning heather-clad moorland and craggy terrain. When your adventures are complete, then the town of Macclesfield is only 7 miles away with its shops, supermarkets, restaurants and monthly food, drink and craft market.
Beyond Lyme, the beautiful Peak District stretches for miles if you’re keen to challenge yourself further, whether that’s walking, climbing, caving, heading out on a bike, or even on horseback. Discover iconic Kinder Scout, Iron Age hill fort Mam Tor and the Edale valley for more stunning landscapes and a chance to get closer to nature. For a more sedate pace, then wander the famous spa towns of Matlock and Buxton or meander around Bakewell (did somebody mention pudding?). When you stay with us, the funds from your holiday go towards caring for special landscapes and places, like the Peak District and Lyme.
