About No. 1 Belton

This gorgeous Grade II-listed country retreat in the Lincolnshire countryside is the perfect bolthole for families and friends, sitting in the village of Belton, overlooking the orangery.

You might recognise this cottage from its role in the BBC adaptation of the children’s novel Moondial, where it became Aunt Mary’s house. Originally built in 1896 for the Clerk of Works on the Belton estate, today you’ll find a contemporary, welcoming take on traditional English country house style, that’s surrounded by lush green lawns. Open the front door and you’ll love the stylish and comfortable decor that runs throughout with a subtle nod to the past. There’s a pretty kitchen off the dining room downstairs, along with the sitting room and shower room. Upstairs are the three bedrooms and family bathroom with a grand roll top bath and separate shower.  When you’re not exploring the vast estate, take a leisurely breakfast in the cottage garden, and soak up the views over the village church and the Belton orangery.

The location here is everything, you’re minutes away from the wonderful Belton House itself (on the other side of the road) and stretching for miles around you is the gorgeous Belton estate; complete with gardens, parkland, ancient woodland and a deserted medieval village. Look out for the wild fallow deer too, who you might spot on your adventures. And if you’re craving a cake and a coffee, then a trip to the tea-room is definitely in order. If you’re away with golfers, then you'll be delighted to find a golf club within walking distance of the cottage as well.

Once you’ve roamed the Belton estate, then head out to discover the attractive market towns of Grantham and Stamford. If history is your thing, then you could spend days exploring nearby places like Tattershall Castle, Burghley House, Woolsthorpe Manor, Belvoir Castle and Harlaxton Manor, all perfect for family days out. If more adventurous activities are calling, then head to Ancaster Leisure where you can go quad biking, karting or try laser tag. When your energy levels finally dip, take a leisurely narrowboat cruise and float peacefully along the Grantham Canal - soaking up the blissful scenery and wildlife-spotting opportunities.
