What's on for grown-ups this Easter at Polesden Lacey

Easter isn’t just for kids, there’s plenty for grown-ups to see and do. This year, Polesden Lacey will experience the vivid colours, exotic sights and fabulous flavours of India as we recollect Mrs Greville’s travels in the east. Please be aware that access to the house on weekends and bank holidays will be by timed-ticket only. The house will be open from 11am until 5pm with last entry at 4pm.

Travel to India with the jet-setting Mrs Greville

Mrs Greville had a knack for cosying up to royalty and collecting them for her social set, whom she regularly entertained with house parties at Polesden Lacey. Perhaps the pearls in her upper crust collection, Mrs Greville boasted friendships with as many as seven maharajahs of India. Discover how this wily socialite courted favour while on holiday in India and how she entertained the maharajahs when they braced the English climate to stay at Polesden Lacey. Furthermore, find out which British royal gave her the snub despite her best efforts.

Enjoy a taste of India in the Cafe

In the Granary Cafe, our chefs are cooking up Quenelles de Volaille Indienne, a dish that was originally served to Mrs Greville's royal Indian guests when they visited Polesden Lacey. This authentic dish, created by Mrs Greville's personal chef, features delicious minced chicken flavoured by aromatic Indian spices, soft turmeric rice, poppadoms and a tangy mango chutney.

Yellow daffodils in the sunshine

Spring flowers abound inside and out

Our fantastic garden team have worked hard throughout the Autumn and Winter months planting thousands of bulbs that will burst into bloom this spring. Enjoy fabulous floral displays throughout the house, featuring vibrant yellow daffs and deep blue grape hyacinths. In the formal gardens, one can hardly miss the sunny yellows of three different varieties of daffodil, lining the beds around the house. Further afield, look out for the delicate whites and pinks of cherry blossom and magnolia just coming into bloom for the season.
