Throughout her later life she worked to help protect it from over development. She said of Sawrey, ‘It is as near a perfect little place as I have ever lived in’. This community based award celebrates the creation and careful management of local landscapes for nature and/or cultural heritage across Cumbria.
Nominations are invited from groups (formal or informal) within Cumbria, where habitats have been created or cared for to protect native species or where communities have worked together to protect their cultural heritage. This could be the creation of a new habitat or the care of long established places of historic or cultural significance, such as a village pond, local woodland, meadow or orchard.
Ideally you are a small community group or independent trust/ provider, based in Cumbria that may work with a larger established charity such as Cumbria Wildlife Trust, RSPB, etc. for advice and support.
