A peaceful campsite less than a mile from the shore of Wastwater, perfectly placed for challenging bike trails and Scafell Pike, England’s tallest mountain.
Wasdale Campsite boasts a very impressive location. As well as space for tents, Wasdale is home to eight heated camping pods, 3 tipis, a bell tent and offers 11 campervan pitches with hard standings and limited electric hook ups.
There is no parking on pitches and for that reason we are unable to accommodate roof or trailer tents.
Facilities at the campsite include an on-site shop, a toilet and shower block, washing-up areas and a laundry room.
Ideal for walkers, the site is situated in between Wastwater and Wasdale Head and is perfectly placed for tackling the Lake District’s highest fells, including Scafell Pike, England’s tallest mountain. Otherwise, the area is great for cyclists too, just make sure you have the right bike and equipment as the area’s trails can get a little adventurous.
One of the things our campers love about Wasdale is the sense of peace and tranquillity. So, to this end, the maximum number of adults allowed in any party is four. This applies whether you book together or separately.
Pitches: Pitches are allocated on arrival.
One night stays: To manage social distancing guidelines on site, currently we can only accept campers who have booked in advance for a minimum of two nights.
Booking more than one tent: The maximum number of adults allowed in any party is four. This maximum applies whether you book together or separately.
Group bookings: Please complete the group bookings enquiry form you'll find towards the bottom of this page.
Dogs: Well behaved dogs that do not disturb other campers are welcome on site (maximum of two per pitch), but please notify us at the time of booking. To reduce any disturbance to other campers, dogs must be always on leads and cleared up after immediately.
Arriving by car: Wasdale Head is reached from the main A595. From the south, turn right at Holmrook for Santon Bridge and follow signs up to Wasdale Head. From the north, turn left at Gosforth.
Arriving by train: There is four mile mountain walk from Irton and Dalegarth stations, on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Please note, there is a greatly reduced timetable in winter.
Wild Escapes: Wasdale Campsite is featured in our new travel book, Wild Escapes, available to buy online or in National Trust shops. From rugged coastline to secluded woodland, it's filled with inspiration from far-reaching corners of the UK for your next adventure.
