Verdigris
This exhibition in a room once occupied by Romantic writer Samuel Taylor Coleridge, brings together flower paintings, botanical etchings and lithographs of foxgloves found in the grounds of the house, by artist Kathryn Poole.

The foxglove, Digitalis purpurea, occupies the transitional space between life and death. It is a pioneer species in a regenerating habitat. Each aspect of the plant presents a paradox, containing both deadly toxins but also lifesaving medicinal properties. The observational drawings in this exhibition examine this contradiction, viewing the plant through its growth and death phases.
The exhibition invites reflection upon life cycles, observation and perception. Drawing observable changes in the appearance of the plant to record the imperceptible stages of death and regeneration.
