Did you know...
- On average, since 1970 41% of all species have been in decline
- There are over 250 bee species in the UK that need protecting
- In the last decade 72% of our butterflies have disappeared
" Nature has sustained us and given comfort during the pandemic, but the wildlife and habitats we rely on are in crisis. If we act now we can regenerate much of the nature we’ve lost and protect it for future generations to enjoy. Together, we really can make a difference."
Together we can make a difference
Back from the brink
Otters nearly went extinct in the 1950s-1970s, but thanks to increased protection they can now be found across the UK and at many places we care for. As predators, otters help to balance out the ecosystems of our rivers and seas.
Growing hope for woodlands
Thousands of supporters who donated to plant a tree have helped to plant 14,500 new tree saplings at places like Kingston Lacy, Dorset in winter 2020. This will create new woodland and grazing habitats and extend beneficial ecosystems.
Perfect for pollinators
Thanks to gifts in wills, we’ve been able to create an area of meadow the size of 260 football pitches in the White Peak, Derbyshire. This helps pollinators to keep our ecosystem thriving by encouraging new plant life to grow.
Beavering away for nature
At Holnicote in Somerset we've released beavers to improve flood management and create wetland habitats for a host of other species. In October 2020, they built what is believed to be the first beaver dam on Exmoor for over 400 years.
Counting the seals
In 2020, a record-breaking 4,000 seal pups were born at Blakeney National Nature Reserve, Norfolk, thanks to our rangers' work to ensure their surroundings are safe. Seals are essential to keeping marine ecosystems in check.
Why give to the National Trust?
As a charity, we rely on the generosity of supporters to look after the outdoor spaces in our care. Not only do our supporters help to conserve beautiful landscapes and protect precious plants and wildlife. But they also ensure that future generations have places they can find freedom from everyday life, reconnect with the natural world and make memories to treasure. Your donation will go towards this project and other vital conservation work in the outdoors at this special place. With your support, we can continue to protect the irreplaceable. For everyone, for ever.
