Help us care for the mountain paths and landscape in the Lake District.

Fragile mountains

As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Lake District has been recognised as a place worth protecting. But its popularity leads to severe erosion on the fells. The impact of feet, coupled with severe weather events and climate change, is causing damage to thin mountain soils. The National Trust, together with the Fix the Fells partner organisations, is helping to maintain this special place for everyone to enjoy.

How the appeal adds up

  • Thanks to your help, over 200 paths have been repaired
  • In the next 10 years 630km of paths will need care and repair
  • We need your help to raise £500,000 each year to fix the fells

Rangers

Four teams of highly skilled National Trust Upland Rangers work on the fells in all weathers, building sustainable paths and re-seeding bare soils.

Volunteers

Over 120 Fix the Fells ‘lengthsmen’ support our Upland Rangers on the fells, giving more than 2,000 days of their time each year.

£25 could help to pay for tools like shovels and buckets, which soon wear out through frequent use
