Did you know?
- Out of the UK's remaining woodland just 7% is in a good ecological state
- The UK is the least wooded country in Europe
- Since 1970 41% of all species are in decline
" A single tree will remove pollutants from the atmosphere and provide a home for millions of birds, insects and mammals. So just imagine what 20 million new trees could do for the environment, native wildlife and our wellbeing."
Carbon in, oxygen out
As they grow, trees absorb and lock in carbon emissions. This helps minimise the affects of global heating as well as cleaning the air of pollution. And the bigger and healthier trees are, the more they do for us.
The best B&B for wildlife
Offering food, protection and shelter throughout the year, woodlands are a haven for animals big and small. These unique habitats are home to millions of species of wildlife.
Inhale, exhale, smile, repeat
From spring blossom to autumn colours, woodlands are brimming with beauty all year round. Almost 40% of British adults have said that hearing woodland sounds boosts their wellbeing, so get outside and find a place that makes you smile.
Slow and steady
Trees help nature chill out. Their leaves provide crucial cooling by lowering air temperatures beneath their canopy. Plus, trees also slow and filter rainwater, improving water quality and helping to prevent flooding.
Our planet’s oldest trees date back to the time Avebury was completed in the Bronze Age, which is why we're committed to caring for our existing woodlands, as well as creating new ones.
Why give to the National Trust?
As a charity, we are dedicated to conserving our nation’s natural and human history so that it can be enjoyed for generations to come. Our conservation projects range from preserving the historic buildings in our care to protecting the plants and wildlife found in outdoor spaces. Your donation will allow us to act quickly, wherever the need is greatest at this special place, and do vital conservation work.
