Guided school visits
Explore the life and work of Florence Nightingale and how she became a regular visitor to Claydon. Your visit is split in to three sessions; life as a soldier in the Crimea, the hospital and Florence’s work when she returned.
We run guided school visits on Thursdays and Fridays from March to the end of October for primary school pupils. We can offer a full day of guided activities in which pupils will participate in 3 different activities.
Grab a waistcoat and discover what life was like for a soldier out in the Crimea. Learn how a musket was used and go back in time on an adventure.
Learn about the conditions that the soldiers had to endure while at hospital and how Florence and her nurses turned it around. Enjoy dressing up as nurses and wounded soldiers and have a go at bandaging ‘wounds’.
Work at Claydon
Find out why Florence visited Claydon and had her own rooms here. Explore the museum where you’ll find a very special orange and a lock of Florence’s hair. You can even sit on Florence’s bed.
