Visiting the Northumberland Coast with your dog

Embleton bay with Dunstanbugh Castle in the distance

Our human visitors and four-legged friends all love the long sandy coastline of Northumberland.

Where can my dog go?

There are many beaches and dunes to explore along this stretch of coastline. We advise to keep your dog on lead at all times as there is often livestock grazing in the dunes and shorebirds breeding on the beaches.

Where can't my dog go?

During peak shorebird breeding season on the Long Nanny we fence off a propotion of the beach to ensure a safe environment and limit disturbance.

What do I need to be aware of on the Northumberland Coast?

To makre sure everyone has an enjoyable day please follow our Canine Code:

  • Take the lead: help reduce the change of your pup distrubing wildlife by keeping them on a lead
  • Scoop that poop: bag it and bin it to keep your favourtie places beautfiul
  • Paws for thought: Look out for information signs and take extra care on the shoreline
  • Be on the ball: Not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by

Facilities available for my dog
