The Grimm Forest - An illustrated fairy-tale wood.

Discover an indoor forest of storytelling trees at Gibson Mill. The Grimm Forest is an exhibition of eleven tree sculptures with hand coloured images, inspired by stories collected by the brothers Grimm.

Originally commissioned by the Royal Festival Hall, it was designed and made by artists Steve Gumbley and Jane Revitt. It has exhibited across the UK and a castle in Germany, and now it returns back to its roots.

Dogs on leads are welcome.
Meeting point
Gibson Mill sits in the middle of the woods at Hardcastle Crags. There are many variation of walks to get there, please see the property map on the homepage for details.
What to bring and wear
Wrap up warm for your woodland adventure and be sure to wear outdoor footwear.
Accessibility
Exhibition is open everyday the mill and cafe is open. Please check these opening times. Disabled parking available by pre-booking only as space is strictly limited.
Other
Please allow 30-40 minutes to walk up past the Mill from our car parks. Entry to the Mill and exhibition is free. Car parking is free to NT to members, charges apply for non-members. Why not ask one of our team about all the benefits of NT membership?
