Explore the attics
See behind the scenes and help even further towards our vital conservation work.
- Booking not needed
- Admission applies
Every Thursday from 2 May to 27 June (except 30 May) we’re opening the doors to our attic rooms to give you the opportunity to see rarely seen before pieces from the collection.
Now used primarily for storage and preservation, previously these attic rooms may have been used by guests and for the family to store textiles and clothes not in use, later the rooms were transformed into a servant’s area and nursery.
Explore the attics for just £1 which helps us towards vital conservation work

What is Gift Aid?
Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.
Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:
- Gift Aid Admission
- Standard Admission
If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.
Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.
An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:
|Amount paid by visitor||£11.00||£10.00|
|Tax refund from Government*||£2.75||£0.00|
|Total received by the National Trust||£13.75||£10.00|

Parking £5 per vehicle. Parking at the Ponds is £4 per vehicle. Fishing day and seasonal tickets are available. A Joint Hall ticket is available and includes entry to Hardwick Hall and Gardens as well as entry to Hardwick Old Hall (managed by English Heritage).
- Assistance dogs are welcome.
- Meeting point
- Access to the attic is easily found on the visitor route after the state floor. To find exactly where that is, our friendly volunteer room guides will be happy to help.
- What to bring and wear
- Please wear comfortable and flat footwear.
- There will be steep steps and uneven flooring at times so therefore is not accessible for wheelchair users or prams.
