Pond dipping & Bug basement sessions

Want to learn more about the wildlife that inhabits our ponds and woodland floors? Then come along to our pond dipping and bug basement sessions!

Find out about caddisfly larvae, water scorpions and great diving beetles at the pond-side, and discover a world of mini-beasts in the bug hunting area, including cardinal beetles, centipedes and springtails! No booking required, sessions are running on:

18th June - 11:00 (pond dipping) & 14:00 (bug basement)

19th June - 11:00 (bug basement) & 14:00 (pond dipping)

25th June - 11:00 (pond dipping) & 14:00 (bug basement)

26th June - 11:00 (bug basement) & 14:00 (pond dipping)

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

For pond dipping please meet at Centenary pond, for the bug basement please meet at the bug basement
What to bring and wear
Please dress suitably for the weather conditions on the day. Sturdy footwear is advisable as some paths are uneven.
Accessibility
Accessible to all, but please note that this outdoor activity will take place on mixed terrain. An off-road mobility scooter is available to hire, please book this in advance.
Other
Non-members please purchase a parking ticket on arrival, members scan your cards.
