Resurfacing The Great British Dig*

Join Regional Archaeologist Mark Newman for an hours walk and talk to revisit the dig sites on Tuesday 19 July. *Hugh Dennis not included.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

During summer 2021, a film crew followed archaeology teams around the gardens and parkland as they investigated some of Beningbrough’s ongoing mysteries. Were there ever more wings to the hall? What did the garden used to look like? During the Festival of Archaeology, join Mark who features with the experts on the programme, to revisit the researched areas and hear his interpretation of the results to date. Uncover what the latest findings might suggest or indeed challenge some previous thinking. Starting at 11am, 1pm or 3pm. Ahead of the event, head to Channel 4 to watch the episode, series 2 – episode 4; the show first aired on 19 January 2022.

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

  Gift Aid Standard
Amount paid by visitor £11.00 £10.00
Tax refund from Government* £2.75 £0.00
Total received by the National Trust £13.75 £10.00

Please note...

The hall and galleries are currently closed for a 2.3 million infrastructure project and due to re-open in summer 2023.

The current price is for access to the gardens, restaurant or brew house, and shop.

Please note, due to staff shortages, the restaurant is closed Monday - Wednesday until 20 July. The Brew House will be open for drinks and light lunches.

Free entry for National Trust members and under fives.

We also accept a selection of other passes including, but not exclusively, RHS membership, Yorkshire's Great Houses, Castles and Gardens Cards, Max Card and the Visit York Pass.
