The Word Defiant!

You'll see a very different story in the house from May to October this year, as we shine a light on the significant book collection at Blickling, as part of the Trust New Art contemporary arts programme.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Blickling's library contains one of the most impressive country house libraries in the care of the National Trust with over 12,500 volumes.

The Word Defiant! will be an immersive theatrical experience using sound and theatrical design to enable visitors to explore the importance of books, the threat posed to them around the globe and their shifting role and continued relevance in a changing world.

See this exciting project from 1 May until 28 October, open everyday 12-5pm.

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

  Gift Aid Standard
Amount paid by visitor £11.00 £10.00
Tax refund from Government* £2.75 £0.00
Total received by the National Trust £13.75 £10.00

*Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

Please note...

Free access to the shops, cafés, RAF Oulton Museum, plant centre, second-hand bookshop, Loft Gallery exhibitions and park walks. Coarse fishing permits are available at the lakeside.

Parking and entry is free for National Trust members. For non-members there is a fixed daily charge of £5 for all car parks, which will go towards the care, maintenance and conservation of the parkland and ensure that the parking areas are maintained.  The machine does not take notes, so please ensure you have £5 of coins with you. However, if needed, visitors can pay for parking by notes or card at Estate Barn visitor reception. There is no charge for blue badge holders in the allocated areas.

There will be no separate garden only ticket from 1 January 2018.

Winter pricing for the whole property covers 1 January - 28 February and 1 - 30 November.
