'The Dig' on Tour

Come and join us to explore the history of Dunstable Downs this half-term. Become an archaeologist - we'll lend you the tools - and dig in our archaeological pit to uncover the histories beneath your feet!

After a very successful archaeological survey in Ashridge Estate in February, we are bringing The Dig to Dunstable Downs this half-term!

Cost is £2 per child - for this you will receive an activity sheet, certificate and a prize!

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

Come into the visitor centre to collect your activity sheet and tools before heading onto the dig site.
What to bring and wear
This event is outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead around the dig site.
Accessibility
This event will be in the courtyard so is a suitable surface for pushchairs. The main dig site is low on the ground, please ask for our alternative smaller 'dig site' that can be used privately on our accessible benches.
