Home for Christmas at Chartwell

Join us for a 1940s Christmas in the gardens of Chartwell in search of some of the bottles that Winston Churchill asked his own children to look for to help him paint one of his now famous artworks, Bottlescape. Running 27 Nov - 2 Jan*. £2 per trail.

  • Booking not needed
  • Admission applies

Explore the gardens of Chartwell this Christmas as you hunt for hidden bottles filled with very special ingredients. Collect the names of all the ingredients hidden in each of the bottles to learn the recipe for a traditional Christmas treat!

Bottlescape is one of Winston Churchill's famous paintings and can now be found in the Dining Room here at Chartwell. The story goes, in order to collect so many bottles all together, he asked his children to run round Chartwell and collect them all for him, bringing them back for him to paint them.

Trails cost £2 (inc. National Trust members). Normal admission applies. The trail will take place between 27 November - 2 January (*excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

  Gift Aid Standard
Amount paid by visitor £11.00 £10.00
Tax refund from Government* £2.75 £0.00
Total received by the National Trust £13.75 £10.00

*Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

Please note...

Free entry for National Trust members. Car parking is £4 per car. Members can obtain a free parking ticket by scanning their membership card at the machines.
