Other
Wet plate collodion photography was invented in 1851, one of the first photographic processes. Photographers such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Roger Fenton, Lewis Carol and Arlington Court’s Miss Rosalie Chichester all enjoyed working with this technique. Large wooden bellowed cameras were used to make images onto plates of glass using chemicals that needed to stay wet to produce an image. The process is an arduous task, being slow, methodical, requiring a darkroom on location and taking 15-20 minutes to make just one glass plate. Working with natural light the exposure times vary from a second or two to several minutes, capturing a passage of time. Please bring lunch with you. Tea and coffee will be provided.
