Music and Lights
Here at Fountains we're getting into the Christmas spirit and have just the thing to enjoy on a chilly winter weekend: glowing lights, festive music and delicious food and drink. Come and join us!
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Tuck into festive food then wander through the estate on weekends to see the abbey all aglow with the colours of the rainbow and catch some festive music! Last entry 4pm but music will be continuing to 4:30pm.
For this year's Music and Lights, pack your torch for an extra treat and venture down the main path from the abbey to Studley Royal - we're having a go lighting the follies this year. Spot the Temple of Fame, the Temple of Piety and Octagon Tower lit up and glowing against the trees.

What is Gift Aid?
Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points. Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:
- Gift Aid Admission or
- Standard admission
If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you the Gift Aid Admission prices. But it's entirely up to you which ticket you choose. If you want the Standard Admission instead, just let us know when you come to pay.
Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid* — an extra 25 per cent — potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.
An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below: Payment of the additional percentage donation is entirely voluntary, so if you prefer to pay the standard admission please advise our reception staff at the till point.
|Amount paid by visitor||£11.00||£10.00|
|Tax refund from Government*||£2.75||£0.00|
|Total received by the National Trust||£13.75||£10.00|
*Gift Aid donations must be supported by a valid Gift Aid declaration and a Gift Aid declaration can only cover donations made by an individual for him/herself or for him/herself and members of his/her family.
National Trust and English Heritage members free (except English Heritage corporate and education memberships). Free admission to St Mary's Church. Under 5s go free.
- Dogs on leads are welcome.
- What to bring and wear
- Warm and comfortable clothing, cash if you're wanting to tuck into some delicious food and drink and a torch, as the sun now sets before 4pm.
- Last entry to the estate is 4pm. Please bear in mind that our admissions staff cannot process payments after this time. A torch is very handy to have as the sun now sets before 4pm - it will be getting dark quickly! The garden and abbey lights will be on until 5pm, so make sure you're thinking of making your way back before then. Choirs: Each weekend there will be a choir singing in either Fountains Hall or the abbey cellarium. Choirs will sing in Fountains Hall between 2.45pm - 3.45pm and in the abbey cellarium between 3.45pm - 4.45pm. On the 9th, 17th and 23rd of December there will be two choir performances, one in the Hall and one in the abbey cellarium. On days when our choir is performing in the hall you will still be able to hear festive sounds in the abbey as you enjoy the light display. To find out where the choir will be singing you can either ring the estate office Monday - Friday on 01765 648160 or check our Facebook page on the day of your visit.
