Bird How, Holmrook, Lake District

Exterior of Bird How cottage, Lake District

Nestled on the fellside at the head of Eskdale is Bird How, a remote and rustic cottage with cosy accommodation on one floor above an old cattle ‘shippon’ (shed).

This rural retreat isn’t for the faint-hearted – there’s no TV, or bathroom so washing is done in the kitchen and there is an Elsan lavatory in the shippon – but location not luxury rule here with spectacular scenery on your doorstep that gives you that life-affirming feeling whatever the weather throws at you.
