Add a touch of homemade charm to your Christmas with a Christmas wreath making workshop, lino printing class or glass painting session near you. Learn how to create dazzling decorations and memorable gifts while enjoying the festive surroundings of the places we look after.

As well as being a fun day out for all the family, by getting crafty this Christmas you’ll be helping us look after historic houses and glorious gardens.

Christmas wreath making workshops

Adorn your front door with a traditional Christmas wreath handmade by you. There are loads of special places that we care for where you can do this, including at Inghtham Mote, Kent, where floral designer Wendy Andrade will be leading a wreath-making workshop.

At Stourhead, near Mere, professional florist Sarah Pettigrew will lead the session along with some festive mulled wine and mince pies.

Willow crafts

From the offcuts of winter foliage comes willow, a great material for weaving decorations from. Washington Old Hall in Tyne & Wear will be hosting various Christmas crafts, where you can create snowflakes and angels from willow. You can create more willow ornaments to take home at lots of other special places that we look after.

Christmas lino printing

Make festive lino print designs at Wightwick Manor and Gardens in Wolverhampton. Jacqui Dodds, painter and fine art printmaker, will guide you in a printing workshop there. At Gibside in Tyne and Wear, lino and mono printmaking will be part of creative workshops at the garden cottage – take some seasonal inspiration from the walled garden.

Glass ornament workshops

Make some delicate glass ornaments at glass craft workshops at many of the special places in our care. Take home your very own snowflakes to keep from the session at Polesden Lacey, Surrey, where you’ll work with Abinger Stained Glass, a professional stained glass artist, to bring some unique shimmer to your Christmas decorations. There’s also a stained glass workshop at Morden Hall Park, Mitcham where you can bring Christmas ornaments to life.

Use winter foliage taken from the surroundings of special places in our care to create some wonderful flower arrangements. Christmas flower arranging is happening at many of our places including Leith Hill Place in Surrey, where local florist Vickie will be leading the session after a festive morning tea. Create some showstopping centrepieces with some seasonal flowers, berries and foliage, and brighten your home all throughout Christmas even if the weather is dreary.
