Dog friendly places to stay in the Lake District

Dog enjoys the view at Wasdale

With lakes and tarns to splash around in, endless trails for walkies and a cosy cottage to stay in, the Lake District has all you and your dog need for a wonderful week away.

We've picked out two contrasting locations for dog-friendly stays in the Lakes.

Windermere West Shore

The western shore of Windermere is within the central hub of the Lake District with Ambleside, Hawkshead and Coniston all within easy reach, but is still away from the hustle and bustle, and is an excellent location for walking.

Wasdale is a much more remote and quieter location, but is at the heart of the high fells of the Western Lakes. If you and your dog(s) are serious walkers then Wasdale is the place for you. If you're not into high fell walking, there are also good, low level walks around Wasdale and the neighbouring valley of Eskdale. For a change of scenery the Cumbrian coast and shingle beach at Ravenglass are within easy reach.
