Friends of Bookham Commons

Couple on bench between trees with lively dog

Thanks to the fund-raising activities of the Friends, we have a new bird hide on Upper Eastern Pond. A great place to sit and enjoy the tranquillity; there are dragonflies, little grebe nesting and bats in the evening.

You don’t have to be local to appreciate and want to give extra support to Bookham Commons; we have a steady stream of visitors from further afield who are keen to hear a nightingale or see a purple emperor butterfly.

What we do

Over the years the Friends have provided restful wooden benches, information boards, a brilliant map, restored ponds, user-friendly bridges, volunteer tools and a stunning boardwalk over a marsh.

The commons have a varied landscape and a great variety of wildlife. Thanks to the wonderful support of the Friends, we are able to undertake extra projects to enhance the property and ensure people can enjoy this peaceful retreat both now and in the future.
