Join us for a Night Run

Runnners at night at Saltram, Devon

Night Run, organised in partnership with Cotswold Outdoor, is a national programme of after-dark trail running events at the places we look after. Running along moonlit trails through ancient parkland, woodland and gardens is an exciting way of keeping active during the autumn and winter.

Going on a Night Run is memorable for many reasons. You'll run past mysterious manor houses bathed in moonlight and follow tree-lined pathways through Georgian landscaped gardens. You might even catch a glimpse of an owl or a bat.

Night Run events are all about having fun, being social and exploring the places you love as darkness falls. It doesn't matter how fast you are as it's all about enjoying the countryside and getting some fresh air.

From October 2019 to February 2020, Night Runs will be taking place at a number of National Trust places. Find a run near you.

Running under the stars at Fountains Abbey

With its illuminated archways and atmospheric ruins, Fountains Abbey is a magical place to go running after dark. Going on a Night Run awakens the senses and allows you to connect with a place you love in a new way. Our gardener Sam Horsman reveals what it’s like running in the footsteps of medieval monks.

Routes for little and long legs

Choose the Explorer route (1-4km) or the Adventurer route (5-9km). Both routes are totally traffic-free, mostly on paths and trails and are open to runners and walkers.

If you're new to running or looking to go on a family adventure the Explorer route could be just the ticket.

The Adventurer route will put you through your paces if you're a seasoned runner, but is also fun if you want to take your time.

Don't forget to bring a head torch.

Find a run near you

Night Runs are taking place at a number of different locations until February 2020. From the illuminated archways of Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire to acres of parkland at the Blickling Estate in Norfolk, our Night Runs will take you to unforgettable locations that you'd never normally see under the cover of darkness.

Everyone taking part in a 2019-20 Night Run will also receive a newly-designed wooden medal as a thank you from us.

Help us protect precious landscapes

Night Run events help us to support essential ongoing conservation work. Your entry fee will help keep the land you run on special, and make sure our rangers can keep looking after the animals and plants that flourish there.

Run for charity

Would you like to run to support a place that's special to you? Many of the National Trust places taking part in the Night Run programme are calling for runners to raise vital funds to help them protect the countryside for future generations. Find out about existing appeals on the website of the place you want to run at.
