National Lottery Funding for the Roundhouse

Team and canoeists from B-Row

It has just been announced that the Roundhouse is to benefit from a £2.5m National Lottery grant. At an event at the Roundhouse, representatives of the Canal & River Trust and the National Trust celebrated this news together with apprentices from Sport Birmingham / Coach Core who are working with B-Row, providers of canoeing and rowing to young people in Birmingham. A fundraising appeal is also to be launched to raise an additional £380,000 needed to bring the project to life. Work will begin early next year.

The grant has been awarded through the Heritage Lottery Fund's Heritage Enterprise programme. It is designed to help when the cost of repairing an historic building is so high that restoration simply is not economically viable. Grants of £100k to £5million bridge the financial gap, funding the vital repairs and conservation work needed to convert derelict, vacant and under-used buildings like the Roundhouse into new, usable commercial spaces that can have a positive impact on local economies.
