Building a den using natural woodland materials is one of the coolest activities on the 50 things to do before you're 11 ¾ challenge list. If you read our tips and tricks they should help you to construct your own den in no time.

What you'll need:

  • Branches
  • Twigs
  • Leaves
  • Mud
  • Your hands
Whether you choose sticks and leaves or twigs and branches, you'll soon have your very own den to hide out in.
Mud is also a great building material so don’t be afraid to slap it on your den’s walls. Choose a dry flat spot for solid foundations.

Top tip:

If you lean sticks against a tree, like a wig-wam, then you don't have to do as much building.

No.4 Build a den

When the days are lighter building a den is a great idea as you'll have longer to make it and more time to spend in it. You can use sticks and twigs and leaves to cover the den and surprise anyone that walks past!
