People's Postcode Lottery

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have been supporting our projects since 2013, raising over £4.5 million to date. We want to say a massive thank you to all players for supporting our mission to look after special places for everyone, for ever.

People’s Postcode Lottery helps us to bring communities together and care for nature by supporting two vital areas of our work:

Heritage Open Days

Thanks to the ongoing support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture. Every September, thousands of local people organise free events to celebrate special places, giving audiences a chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences.

Blossom Together

Blossom Together, a new programme for 2021, will create new, beautiful and useful green spaces to give communities more access to nature. Players’ support will fund three new tree circles in Newcastle, Nottingham and Plymouth as well as other plantings and a cultural programme. This will mark the impact of coronavirus, provide space to reflect and celebrate, and offer opportunities for people to connect with nature and each other.

2021 Extra Award: Castlefield Viaduct Elevated Park – pilot summer 2022

Castlefield Viaduct is a beautiful but unused, 330m long historic structure in Manchester which we're committed to bringing back into use. This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to take what we do beyond the properties in our care and will help us to provide a more accessible space for everyone, for ever.

Working with partners and the community we want to reinvent the viaduct as an elevated urban park. It will house an integrated active travel hub, provide a new, walkable greenspace for the city, act as a beacon for urban industrial heritage re-use and provide a ‘stepping stone’ encouraging sustainable access to nature and heritage attractions to the south of the city. The park will also respond to the public’s need for access to greenspace which is of even greater importance since the pandemic.

With players support and this exceptional Extra Award, we will be able to develop the design and construct and operate a temporary park installation on the surface of the viaduct for a set period in summer 2022.

" We are thrilled that funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery to the National Trust will continue to support Heritage Open Days and Blossom Together in 2021."

Reimagining orchards at Brockhampton

Blossoming orchards are being brought back to life at Brockhampton in Herefordshire. Two new orchards will be created and the original Victorian orchard will be reimagined to tell the story of how apple trees were brought to England from Russia and Kazakhstan. This project is thanks to funding from Postcode Earth Trust, raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, and funds from Arts Council England.
