Philip's lasting legacy to Cumbria

A place isn’t just a place. It’s part of you.

Some places mean so much that they become a part of you. When you’ve played, picnicked, fallen in love or watched your children grow up somewhere, that place can be found forever in your heart. That’s how National Trust member Philip Crossley-Dawson feels about Arnside Knott in Cumbria and why he's made a lasting gift to treasure the memories.

Philip remembers how he scrambled up Arnside Knott as a child, raced his dog up there as a young man and strolled up it hand in hand with his wife-to-be when they were courting. It’s continued to punctuate his whole life in this way.

Arnside Knott has always been a part of Philip, and now he has taken a step to make sure he’ll always be a part of it too by leaving a gift to protect the area in his will. It’s a gift to future generations. A gift to memories yet to happen; to those who’ll discover its enchantment long after him.

We need more people like Philip to leave gifts in their wills to protect the places they love, so that these places can continue to make memories, rather than simply becoming one.
