Say goodbye to summer at South Milton Sands
A sandy beach, the sound of waves and beachside views for watching the sunset – a perfect setting for the our Big Night Out on the Beach, taking place on Saturday 15 September 2018 at South Milton Sands.
In partnership with the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team, the event welcomes families for a whole host of activities during the dusky hours to celebrate the end of summer.
The event will run from 4 - 9.30pm and is free to attend, though certain activities will have small charges.
As well as trying out watersports, snorkelling and rockpooling. Visitors can also look forward to a scavenger hunt, storyteller, beach games, hoola hooping, crafty activities like seashell necklaces, guided seashore foraging with a cook up of the finds, and lots more.
But the highlight of the evening is the Sundown Parade, showcasing sea-themed sculptures carefully constructed by local school children, and guided by glass lanterns that visitors can decorate on the day. Our theme this year is Clean Seas, so activities will be based around reducing marine litter and making pledges of what action we can all take to reduce our use of single use plastics. At the end of the parade we will be returning a mermaid to the sea to symbolise sea life returning to a clean and safe environment (feel free to amend all this!)
Surfing Sam's 15 minute watersports taster sessions in stand up paddleboarding, sit on top kayaking and windsurfing will cost £4 each.
The National Trust Rangers are running 30 minute snorkelling sessions, at £3 per person, suitable for ages 8+. Wetsuits, snorkels and fins will be provided. Places will be first-come-first-served, times to be announced.
Simply Soulful Yoga will be running Glow-in-the-dark Sunset Beach Yoga, guiding a calming 45min session with uplifting tunes for yoga flow. All abilities welcome, please bring a yoga mat or beach towel, warm clothing and blankets. £5 per person, includes free glow sticks.
