It's our 10th Birthday

A group doing bushcraft in the woods at Footprint Cumbria

This year is our 10th birthday, so we’ve decided to throw a little party to celebrate. Come and wander into the woods with us on Saturday 8 July and get a taster of all the great things we have going on here.

10 years ago, in June 2007 the construction of the Footprint building was completed. It was the first building in Cumbria to be constructed with straw bale walls, and the first of its kind built anywhere by the National Trust.

It took a whole community, lots of passion and hard work to realise our vision of creating an organic, environmentally friendly educational base for people to use to reconnect with nature in the peaceful St Catherine’s Wood.

Over the last 10 years that community spirit and passion has remained and Footprint has become a truly inspirational space, where we invite people to step away from their busy lives. So in our tenth year we are taking time to remember how we did it, to reflect upon the impact it has had and to celebrate all of the fantastic people that continue to make this place special.

Birthday celebration, Saturday 8 July

At our birthday celebration we will have free taster sessions of all the great things we do here at Footprint including woodland crafts, yoga, kids’ crafts, gardening and singing. We’re also planning to have live storytelling around the campfire, revealing our new Footprint tale.

Proceedings will kick off at 10am and run until 4pm, everyone is welcome, there will be campfire food and drinks available to buy and free parking will be provided at Windermere School, just a short walk away.

This Saturday 8 July, come and help us celebrate, spend time outdoors and try something new.
