About 2 Lichfield Lodge
A newly-converted, dog-friendly gate house on the edge of the Shugborough Estate, with walks from the door.Pretty much a mirrored image of Lichfield Lodge 1, this former gate lodge on the boundary of Shugborough’s 900-acre estate is the perfect spot for getting away from it all. And with out of hours access to the parkland and wild deer roaming on the doorstep, you’ll feel like you’ve woken up in another world. Open the door of this cosy Grade II listed lodge to reveal a contemporary-styled interior with a wood burning stove, perfect for those colder nights. There is a nod to the practical style and comfort of the larger Shugborough mansion. Outside there’s a small private lawned garden with a table and chairs so you can sit in the sunshine and enjoy alfresco meals.
Just off the main road, the lodge offers out-of-hours access to the parkland where you can happily wander the vast estate, sweeping parkland, ancient woodland and a landscape peppered with monuments, including some of the earliest examples of Greek Revival and Oriental-influenced designs in the country. There’s seasonal blooms to seek out in the formal gardens too. The estate also includes Park Farm; built at the cutting edge of agricultural reform in 1805; complete with a farmhouse, mill and dairy.
If you can tear yourself away from the vast estate, then Cannock Chase AONB is just across the road, this is the perfect location for cyclists, with a bike store on site, you can easily pick up one of the many cycling routes from your doorstep. Cannock Chase is also home to Go Ape if you fancy a treetop adventure, and ideal for horse riders, walkers, or birdwatchers. For those wanting a purposeful walk, the village of Little Haywood is less than a mile away, where you can stop off for a pint from the local pub. The villages of Wolseley Bridge and Milford are also less than 2 miles away, with café’s, restaurants and antique shops too. For a different perspective on the area, then try a hot air balloon ride to glide through the skies beyond Shugborough. Stafford is just 6.5 miles away and the historic cathedral city of Lichfield is around 11 miles away. Nearby National Trust properties include Sudbury Hall with the Museum of Childhood and Moseley Old Hall. When you stay with us, the funds from your holiday go to help caring for Shugborough Estate.
