About 40/42 Michaelgate

A half-timbered house full of original features set within the cobbled streets of Lincoln.

This higgledy-piggledy, half-timbered house sits atop one of Britain’s best streets, Steep Hill. It was voted top street in 2012 for its historical character where a mix of local tea-rooms, vintage boutiques and speciality shops line its cobbled hill. You’ll feel part of Lincoln’s historic atmosphere when you stay in this quirky building, with its curious mix of timber and brick construction, and period features inside. Climb its three floors via the winding narrow staircase to views across the rooftops and out towards the countryside.

Step outside to two thousand years of history, with Lincoln Castle and the 12th-century cathedral within walking distance. It was here that the most recent The Da Vinci Code was filmed.

Beyond the city centre, we have a number of properties nearby. As a guest of the cottage you’ll have free access to Gunby Hall and Gardens, Tattershall Castle, Woolsthorpe Manor and Belton.

About the Acorn rating

We have applied a 1-5 acorn rating to each cottage to be used only as a guide that covers location, style of interior and facilities you may be looking for. The range runs from 1 Acorn at a more basic level such as Bird How which due to its stunning yet remote location doesn’t have a caretaker through to 5 Acorns at the highest level – such as Shute Barton.

Cottage pricing is not judged on the Acorn rating alone and as all our cottages are of an individual nature we recommend that all factors are considered when making your choice.
