About Foreland Bothy

Small, basic and a fun alternative to camping, Foreland Bothy offers a beautiful place from which to explore the South West Coast Path. Leave all your gadgets at home and opt for a simpler pace of life in this rustic retreat. 

Soak up incredible sea views on the short mile stroll along the footpath to the local pub. On the way home, make the most of the areas spectacular dark skies – some of the darkest in Europe – and spend the evening stargazing. 

With the sea so close, the opportunities for watersports or simply enjoying time on the beach are endless. A little further afield, Lynton is a great destination if you’re missing ordinary life. If you’ve had enough of cooking on a camping stove, the town has a number of cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy a hearty meal.

Layout

Ground floor layout

One double (4'6") raised platform, one single platform and one single raised platform that visitors can put their own mats or air beds on. There is storage space under the platforms and there are hooks on the back of the main door. There is also a sink and a cold water tap. External access to a compost toilet.

Acorn Rating: Please note, that while bothies and bunkhouses show a 1 Acorn rating on this site, facilities are more limited. A bothy offers a ‘camping with walls’ experience, usually with no electricity or running water. Bunkhouses provide simple, accommodation for groups – mostly dormitories with bunk-beds – showers, electricity and heating.

Heating: No heating is provided. 

Bedding/linen: No linen is provided.  

Please note: There is no electricity or lighting in the bothy.

Parking: There are 2 car parking spaces at the top of the lane on the main A39, approx 1 mile from the bunkhouse.  

Garden: There is no garden, there is a space to sit outside the bothy however it does not belong to the bothy.

Hazards: This is an area with minimal light pollution so the nights will be very dark, we recommend bringing along a torch particulary to access the outside compost toilet.

Dog owners should be aware that there is no enclosed garden at the bothy.
