The Lieutenant’s Quarter, along with The Major’s Quarter (sleeps four), The Captain’s Quarter (sleeps two) and Tiffy's (sleeps two), sits high on St Anthony Head overlooking the sea on the Roseland peninsula. These special fomer officer's quarters were preserved when the National Trust took over the care of St Anthony Head in 1959, and you can explore the history of the former military fortification site during your stay. The defences were built to protect against invasion, from Napoleonic times up to World War Two, and you can book onto a tour to explore them. The money you spend on your holiday helps maintain and preserve this special site.

Outside the cottages, there’s a path that leads to a view point overlooking St Mawes, Falmouth and the Carrick Roads. There are many walking trails in the area - the St Anthony Head circular walk is a good place to start for a short, circular walk with dramatic scenery. For the beach, head to the nearest coves of Great Molunan & Little Molunan; the Roseland peninsula is an unspoilt landscape of cliffs, creeks, woods and beaches. Wildlife thrives in the area's many quiet spots - ponies who graze to support a healthy balance of plants, and down at sea level, the common seals who like to visit Gulf Rock. Look out for peregrine falcons from the bird hide tucked away near the ramparts.

The small fishing village, Portscatho is just a 10-minute drive from here.
