Tucked away in a woodland clearing, this modern, wheelchair-friendly bunkhouse is the perfect base from which to explore the spectacular coast and countryside of the Gower Peninsular.

Looking for a quirky holiday hideaway for you and your friends and family? Cwm Ivy Lodge Bunkhouse is the place for you. Walk the ground that 1920s scientists once trod when you stay in this timber-built building. Rebuilt in 2012, its corrugated exterior replicates the look of the field lab that once stood here.

Offering simple comfort all on one floor, it’s got two bunk-bedded dormitories as well as an accessible en-suite twin room. With a wood burning stove in the living room and a drying room near the front door, you’ll be warm and dry whatever the weather.

Outside, you’ll find a communal space with bbq, chairs and tables, where you can relax and take in your tranquil surroundings. The bunkhouse is a great place to indulge in some nature watching. It’s situated alongside Whiteford Burrows National Nature Reserve and has views across Cwm Ivy Marsh. If you’re keen to spot coastal birds such as oystercatchers, lapwings and egrets, you could head to Llanrhidian Marsh, just ½ a mile away.

The village of Llanmadoc is just 1 ½ miles from the bunkhouse, where you’ll find a village shop and pub. The nearest beach, Whiteford beach, is only 1 mile away but with the whole of the Gower all just a short drive away, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a sandy spot. With castles, seaside towns, water sports and coastal walks all within easy reach of the bunkhouse, you’ll be able to pack in plenty of adventures to make it a holiday to remember.

Ground floor layout

Drying room, toilet/shower room, sitting room, kitchen, three bedrooms (the accessible room is en-suite with an electric shower) and two additional shower rooms/toilets.

Acorn Rating: Please note, that while bothies and bunkhouses show a 1 Acorn rating on this site, facilities are more limited. A bothy offers a ‘camping with walls’ experience, usually with no electricity or running water. Bunkhouses provide simple, accommodation for groups – mostly dormitories with bunk-beds – showers, electricity and heating.

Heating: The bunkhouse is fully heated with under floor heating and a wood burner in the living area. 

Logs: A starter fire is laid ready for your arrival, and a basket of logs for the first night, if you require more, please be sure to purchase before your arrival.

Bedding/linen: Pillows are provided, but you will need to bring your own pillow cases, bottom sheets, duvets & cover or sleeping bag, towels, tea towels and toilet rolls.

Parking: Parking is outside the accommodation and you can park directly alongside for ease of loading unloading. There is space for 6 cars if needed. There are outside lights if arriving after dark.

Garden: No formal garden but there is a communal outdoor space where the BBQ is situated and outside chairs and tables are provided.
