Once a 19th-century barn in the traditional Cornish settlement of Triggabrowne, Fortescue is now a homely cottage with an unusual design. The living spaces are on the first floor for uninterrupted views across green fields through the day, while the bedrooms are downstairs to settle into at night.

It's only a 15-minute walk to a dramatic stretch of coastline with a rich fishing and smuggling heritage. A three-mile round trip across Lantivet Bay, Pencarrow Head and Lantic Bay takes in views of cliffs and small beaches; you might even see Dartmoor ponies. The remains of an old pilchard cellar - where fishermen would salt their catch - can be found at Palace Cove, and the Watch House was built for coastguard patrols after a brandy smuggling incident known as the ‘Lantic Hill Affair’. Following the steep path at Lantic Bay will take you down to the secluded sand beaches and clear blue waters of Little Lantic and Great Lantic. We care for most of the land near the cottage and the money you spend on your holiday contributes to its conservation.

Polruan village, with its pubs and cafés, is less than two miles away, and from there you can take a passenger ferry to the lively harbour town of Fowey.

Groups of up to 25 can book to stay in the area: Hayrick Cottage (sleeps four) is joined to Fortescue, and Triggabrowne Dairy Cottage (sleeps two), Triggabrowne Farm House (sleeps four) and Tippett's (sleeps four) are next-door. Triggabrowne Meadow Cottage (sleeps three) and Triggabrowne Cottage (sleeps two) are also just a short walk away.

Layout

First floor: External ramp to the front door. Entrance hall with room to hang coats and stairs down to the bedrooms. Sitting room with three sofas, wood burner and television. Kitchen with table and chairs for six. Shower room.

Ground floor: Double bedroom with 5' bed. Double bedroom with 6' bed (which can also be a twin on request). Twin bedroom. Bathroom with freestanding bath and walk-in shower.

Outdoor space

Gravelled area with picnic table and charcoal barbecue. Orchard to the front and grassy areas shared with other cottages.

Induction Hob: Guests with a pacemaker should note that there is an induction hob in this cottage.

Heating: Night storage heating and convector heating included.

Logs/charcoal: Environmentally friendly briquettes for use on the fire and charcoal for the barbecue can be bought at the time of booking or whilst at the cottage.

Utilities: The washing machine and tumble dryer are shared with the other cottages and housed in an out building. 

Please note: Fortescue and Hayrick Cottage are semi-detached, with front doors on different sides of the building. Please see accessibility guides for entrance details.

Parking: Parking is situated in the communal farmyard car parking area, with space for two cars.

*WiFi: This is now available, but please note that intermittent connection problems can sometimes occur and should not be relied upon. We are pleased to provide free WiFi at this cottage which is supported by BT.

Garden: There is an orchard to the front of the property and communal grassy areas surrounding the cottage. There is a wooden picnic table, charcoal barbecue and gravelled area directly outside the cottage.

Offers: Guests will benefit from a late Sunday checkout of 4pm at this cottage.

Please note: The cobbled ramp leading to the cottage is slippery when wet.
