About Carburton Lodge South

Built in the late 18th-century of ashlar limestone blocks, Carburton Lodge South is one of the earliest buildings to survive on Clumber Park and is full of character. It’s small and snug so is perfect for couples.

This compact cottage is a delightful mix of historic charm and practical comfort. The cosy open-plan bedroom/sitting room is furnished in a contemporary style with a log burning stove and 4’6 double bed. While the simple kitchen has everything you need to rustle up tasty lunches and hearty evening meals. Outside there’s a fully enclosed lawned garden for you to enjoy, along with a small patio by the back door.

Located at one of the original entrances onto the estate, the cottage is perfect base from which to explore the 3,800-acre Clumber Park. The house, once the estate of the Dukes of Newcastle, was demolished in 1938 but there are many glimpses of its grand past still to see, including the Gothic-style chapel and the Walled Kitchen Gardens. The cottage is approximately a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk from the main visitor hub and just a short distance from the small hamlet of Carburton.

Further afield, Sherwood Forest, home to the Major Oak of Robin Hood fame, is a 20-minute drive away and you can reach the magnificent Peak District National Park in an hour. If you want to take in a bit more cultural history on your holiday, the historic city of Lincoln and the National Trust properties of The Workhouse, Hardwick Hall and Belton House are all within an hour’s drive.
