A converted brick and timber barn on the Attingham Park Estate
Built at Smethcote Farm in the 1700s, the Threshing Barn is now a comfortable countryside retreat for six people.
The hallway leads to an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room area with a double-height ceiling, exposed brick walls and a woodburning stove. There’s one double bedroom with an en suite shower on the ground level. The first of two staircases leads into the first-floor double bedroom with an en suite shower. The second staircase takes you to the mid-level family bathroom and then up again to a twin bedroom.
Outside, the barn shares a large walled garden with the Smethcote Barn next door. There is a lawn as well as a wildflower meadow to support local wildlife. Two Dutch barns, built around 1900, provide some shelter and shade. Within the garden, Threshing Barn has a screened private seating area including a fire pit which has a barbecue grill.
There are a great many walks on the estate and the national cycle route is on the barn’s doorstep. You’ll have free entry to Attingham Park’s Regency Mansion, Walled Garden, Deer Park and Field of Play, as well as other National Trust properties in the area. Attingham’s Carriage House Café, Stables Shop and second-hand bookshop are open every day.
The village of Atcham and local pubs are 3 miles away, with the vibrant town of Shrewsbury a 15-minute drive. Close by, there are canals, the river Severn and Tern, great Shropshire walks, and attractions including Wroxeter Roman City and World Heritage Site Ironbridge Gorge.
Larger groups can also book neighbouring Smethcote Barn which sleeps four people.
Hallway leading to open plan kitchen, dining, and sitting room. From the hallway is a King size (5ft) bedroom with ensuite shower room. Two staircases lead up to the first floor.
Stairs lead directly into a King (5ft) size bedroom with ensuite shower room. The second staircase leads to mid-level bathroom with shower over bath and then proceeds up to a twin bedroom with two 3ft single beds.
