About Threshing Barn

Built at Smethcote Farm in the 1700s, the Threshing Barn is now a comfortable countryside retreat for six people.

The hallway leads to an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room area with a double-height ceiling, exposed brick walls and a woodburning stove. There’s one double bedroom with an en suite shower on the ground level. The first of two staircases leads into the first-floor double bedroom with an en suite shower. The second staircase takes you to the mid-level family bathroom and then up again to a twin bedroom.

Outside, the barn shares a large walled garden with the Smethcote Barn next door. There is a lawn as well as a wildflower meadow to support local wildlife. Two Dutch barns, built around 1900, provide some shelter and shade. Within the garden, Threshing Barn has a screened private seating area including a fire pit which has a barbecue grill.

There are a great many walks on the estate and the national cycle route is on the barn’s doorstep. You’ll have free entry to Attingham Park’s Regency Mansion, Walled Garden, Deer Park and Field of Play, as well as other National Trust properties in the area. Attingham’s Carriage House Café, Stables Shop and second-hand bookshop are open every day.

The village of Atcham and local pubs are 3 miles away, with the vibrant town of Shrewsbury a 15-minute drive. Close by, there are canals, the river Severn and Tern, great Shropshire walks, and attractions including Wroxeter Roman City and World Heritage Site Ironbridge Gorge.

Larger groups can also book neighbouring Smethcote Barn which sleeps four people.

More information

Please note: Please be aware the main entry door into the property is low, so care needs to be taken going in and out.

Heating: Air source heat pump with underfloor heating throughout. A woodburning stove is provided in the open plan room in the seating area.

Parking: The parking area is at the front the barns and there are at least three spaces available for Threshing Barn. There is a shared electric vehicle charging point, which is on a first come, first served basis.

Garden: There is a very large walled garden at the rear of the property. The garden is open with the holiday cottage next door, but there is a dividing fence part way up the garden, so that they each have their own private section. There is a private external seating area with fire pit near to the barn.

Please note: There are two private homes across from the barns’ parking area, and free-range chickens and other birds often roam the lane.
