Fron Dirion is a secluded 18th-century cottage on a working hill farm in South Eryri (Snowdonia). There's a wood-burning stove in the original inglenook fireplace, wooden beams and stone floors. It was once used as a base for fishing trips in the 50s and 60s and a drawing of a trout can be seen on the wall by the front door.
The cottage is surrounded by countryside, with views up the valley, and is a perfect base for hikers. The nearby Mawddach Trail, based on an old railway line, is great for cyclists too, while the walk around the Rhaeadr Ddu waterfall is less than a 30-minute drive from the cottage. You can pick up the trail for Cader Idris mountain from the market town of Dolgellau, just 15 minute's drive away. Your stay will contribute to the care of the surrounding countryside and its wildlife.
Cymer Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey founded in 1198, is 10 miles away and the sandy beaches at Fairbourne and Barmouth are 18 miles to the west. You'll have free entry to National Trust places during your stay, including Powis Castle.
Braich Melyn (sleeps four) is another holiday cottage, 10-minute walk from Fron Dirion, which can be booked together for a group stay.
