The Old Smithy is a small, single-storey building tucked away in a peaceful corner of the tiny village of Buckden, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Stone walls and exposed beams add to the charm of this one-bedroom nook.

Enjoy the cottage’s secluded location and head out for a ramble in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. There are a number of villages nearby if you need to stop for refreshments along the way, or stop by Buckden's village pub on your way back to the cottage.

You can drive to Malham village to take the trail to the famous limestone cliff of Malham Cove. There are many other walks nearby, some passing waterfalls, others along the lakeside of Malham Tarn. Guests with reduced mobility can pre-book a Tramper to take the trail along the shore, free of charge. There's also a scenic boardwalk that weaves through woodland and into limestone pasture across the Malham Tarn National Nature Reserve. In spring and summer there's a colourful display of wildflowers, including the yellow globeflower or bright pink and purple orchids - look out for butterflies and dragonflies too.

Further afield, Fountains Abbey is just a 30-mile drive away, where you can explore its historic ruins, water garden and deer park. Brimham Rocks is also in driving distance, with giant rock formations that have been eroded over millions of years.

The market town of Skipton is 18 miles away and makes for a great day out. It has a castle and Victorian shopping arcade, and you can take a boat trip on the canal.
