Gentle's Copse

Gentle's Copse, Hampshire

Gentles's Copse in Hampshire is an ancient woodland that dates back to medieval times.

It is made up of coppiced sessile oaks, a tree which is rare in the south of the country.

In the past, the wood was used for fuel and to make charcoal for the iron industry. You can also see a stone-faced boundary bank that once prevented the commoner's animals from straying into the copse.
