CB300 month at Prior Park

2016 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, a designer who changed the national landscape and created a style which has shaped people’s picture of the quintessential English countryside. Join the celebrations throughout June at Prior Park.

Cows in the pasture

Mystery surrounds the involvement of Capability Brown at Prior Park. A sum of £60 was still owed to him at the time of Ralph Allen’s death, though it is not clear what this fee covered. His influence on the garden is clear though, with rolling hills, the serpentine lake and typical garden features such as the gothic temple and lakes.

As part of the nationwide celebrations throughout the year, we'll be marking the occassion with events throughout June.

Poetry and writing workshops

Do you ever wonder how writers get their inspiration from nature and place? Join writer Alice Maddicott to explore the secrets the garden at Prior Park holds - to search for hidden beauty and inspiration from the miniature to the grand in scale, to test out ideas and create your own work based on these wonderful surroundings. Celebrate CB300 through poetry, prose, nature writing, word sketches, text experimentation! All levels welcome. There is a morning workshop for families, and an afternoon workshop for adults.

  • Sun 19 June – families 10am-12pm, £10 adult, £7 child
  • Adult session for ages 15+, 1-4pm, £20. Booking advised
