Rievaulx Terrace - Room with a view

Autumn at Rievaulx Terrace

Rievaulx Terrace, the 18th Century neo-classical pleasure garden created for walking, lunching and relaxing, has something for everyone. The beautiful terrace with it's two stunning temple follies, sits high above Rievaulx Valley creating a perfect viewing platform to take in the spectacular surroundings.

Take it all in
Rievaulx is a great place for a gentle meander, either on your feet, in a pushchair or on a mobility scooter.  The ground is flat, comprising of gravel and grass, the site is accessible for all.
Wander through the woodland in the dappled light, a shady relief from the sunshine and heat, or a shelter from the summer showers, keeping your eyes and ears open for birds and wildlife all around.
Once on the terrace stride out and stretch enjoying the wide open space around you and the sprawling views ahead.
Relax, breathe, enjoy.
Fun with your fury friends
We love dogs at Rievaulx Terrace so bring along your favourite four legged friends for a visit.  Pop them on a lead and let them stretch their legs (and your arm) enjoying a ramble through the woodland, smelling all the lovely doggy smells.
Wonder at the wild flower bank
The wild flower bank really is something to see. Full of beautiful flowers like Cowslips, Primrose, Crosswort and Early Purple Orchids in the spring and Lady’s Bedstraw, Yarrow and Harebells through the summer.  The air is filled with the buzzing of the busy bees and shimmers with the colours of butterflies like Red admirals, Commas, Painted ladies and Humming bird hawk moths.
September sees the end of the wild flower annual cycle and our banks are cut back in readiness for the year ahead.
A fun family adventure
Bring the kids.  Pick up a Tracker Pack from reception (£5 returnable deposit required) full of useful kit including a magnifying glass, a bug tub and binoculars and explore the natural area around you.  Build a den in the wild play area deep in the woods, or take advantage of the wide open space as you skip run and dance your way along the terrace!
Through the seasons
Rievaulx Terrace is a cracking place to visit throughout the seasons.  Whether you are looking for a quiet place to picnic and read, a good example of a Yorkshire view or somewhere for the kids to run off some steam, this is the place for you.

We look forward to seeing you.
