We are beginning to imagine what the future of Castlefield Viaduct could look like. Whether you've visited the viaduct or not, this is your chance to have your say in the future of this iconic Mancunian landmark.

Over the last 2 years, we've been working with partners in Manchester to transform the disused Castlefield Viaduct into a green space for people and nature. Since opening in July 2022 the viaduct has welcomed almost 50,000 visitors.

We are beginning to imagine what the future of the Viaduct could look like. Although funding is still needed to turn these ideas into a reality, this is your chance to have your say in the design of this iconic Mancunian landmark, whether you have visited the Viaduct or not. The aim is to connect the viaduct to Pomona Island in Salford, so there are two ways to get on and off the viaduct. Our hope for its future is that the viaduct brings even more benefits to people and nature in Manchester and to create an active travel route.

By taking part, your voice will help us design a space that the people of Manchester can use and benefit from well into the future. Your answers and comments will be used by the National Trust, BDP and partners to shape the ongoing plans for the viaduct and how we continue to work in urban spaces. You do not have to answer every question if you don’t feel comfortable doing so, and all answers are anonymous.

We want you to think to the future, think big, think bold, think about your needs and aspirations.

The vision for shaping the future of Castlefield Viaduct

Take a look at the vision to breathe life into a historic piece of Manchester’s hidden heritage. This isn't the final 'plan' - this is just a starting point to get you thinking about what could be. The vision and design for the viaduct will be led by what we hear from you and others.
