Migrating birds

Spring is in the air and birds are on the move, slow down to spot migrating birds over Sandilands. Look out for passage birds such as ring ouzel, whinchat, and curlew sandpiper. Or catch a glimpse of reed warblers, swifts and yellow wagtails. Borrow some binoculars from SandiDunes café kiosk and add what you spot to our sightings board.

The dawn chorus

In the spring, as the days get longer, male birds start looking for love. They sing songs to attract females and to protect their territory from other males. While some bird species sing all day long, it's at dawn when many birds come together to perform their chorus.

Early morning walkers at Sandilands may hear the joyful sound of song thrushes, chiffchaffs, and reed warblers when the air is still and the light is low.
