Make your own gorgeous Georgians

Stick people made with twigs and scraps of fabric

All it takes to make your own stick family is some decent-sized twigs, odds and ends of fabric, wool and natural materials, some glue or thread – and a bit of imagination.

Start by finding a roughly Y-shaped stick in the garden or when you go out for a walk. (If you can’t find one that’s the right shape, tie a couple of sticks together using wool, thread or string.)

This will be the legs and body. Tie another stick across the body, or wrap a pipe cleaner around it, to make arms.

Now dress and decorate your stick person any way you fancy. You can sew or glue their clothes, hair and accessories together from scraps of fabric and wool, natural materials such as dried moss and leaves, plus glitter and any other craft materials you have in the house.

You could create a whole family of gorgeous Georgians, dress your sticks from any other time in history that you like, or even recreate your own family. You could make your favourite characters from books or TV, or simply let your imagination run riot.

You can also make animals and other creatures in the same way. And if you have paints and some old cardboard boxes, you can build and decorate houses for them too!
