How to get to the Family Discovery Trail

Family walking dog in woods

The Family Discovery Trail is full of fun outdoors activities to have a go at.

The Woodland Play Area is on the south eastern part of Claverton Down Road, and the nearest entry point from the road is next to Flatwoods Road.

We recommend catching the City Sightseeing Skyline Tour bus from outside Bath Spa railway station. The bus stops in several places along Claverton Down Road.

When getting on the bus, you can ask for a single trip ticket which costs £2.50. You can get off at stop M (13. Claverton Down Road), cross the road and turn left for about 20m. You will then find National Trust signs by a gate on your right-hand side. Go through the gate, follow the signs to the Woodland Play Area, continue through the play area to find signs for the start of the Elf and Fairy Foray.

Alternatively you can get off at stop N (14. Ralph Allen School). Cross the road and go through the gate into Longwood Field. Walk straight ahead along the edge of the field, then pass through another gate onto a woodland path. Turn right onto the Elf and Fairy Foray. Continue along the fairy trail to reach the woodland play area.

These stops should be requested when you get on the bus. The bus may not stop otherwise.
