Easter days out on the Isle of Wight in 2017
This article was about our Easter holiday activities in 2017. We'll be updating this with 2018 event information next year. Whether you’re here on holiday or want to enjoy a family day out together, there’s plenty to do at our Isle of Wight places this spring. With a special programme of events throughout the Easter holidays, you can try anything from making your own rocket, to hunting for Cadbury’s chocolate or searching for a geocache.
Cadbury egg hunts
Across the Island this Easter, the Cadbury bunny has been busy hopping around hiding clues. Over the Easter weekend, follow the trail he’s left as you explore through the gardens at Mottistone (Sun 16 Apr), or hunt inside and outside at the ancient windmill in Bembridge (Fri 14 –Mon 17 Apr). Bunny has even made it as far as the Needles Battery this year, so you can follow him all the way to the tip of the Island (Fri 14 –Mon 17 Apr). And once you’ve discovered them, use his hidden clues to solve the puzzle, and claim your delicious Cadbury chocolate treat.
Carry on searching
It’s not just chocolate that you can search for this Easter. At Newtown we’ve lots of trails over the holidays, so you can go hunting through the woods and meadows to discover the hidden treasures within. On our geocache trail, use your smartphone or GPS to follow the clues and locate the secret geocaches (Sat 8 Apr-Sun 23 Apr). Or come along on our bird discovery walk and find out what it’s like to be a bird by making your own nest (Tues 18 Apr-Sat 22 Apr). If you’d like to know about Newtown’s very own Pied Piper, then listen to the tale and follow the trail to discover the full story of what happened (Tues 11 Apr-Thurs 13 Apr).
Try something different
For something completely different this Easter, head to the Needles Battery and become a rocket scientist for the day by making your own ‘fizzy’ rocket (Wed 12 Apr). Will yours have enough thrust to launch it the highest? Or if all the hunting for bunnies has made you want to discover even more wildlife, then on a visit to Bembridge discover the plants and animals that call the windmill home with our ‘Looking for signs of spring’ trail (Sat 8 Apr-Sun 23 Apr).
Come rain or sunshine, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy this Easter.
